Mold Remediators and VCPA - Changes for Virginians in 2024

Date Added: 2024-06-10

A new change in law is coming, effective July 1, 2024. Virginia passed HB1270 (, making it a per se violation of the Virginia Consumer Protection act to "sell or offer for sale services as a professional mold remediator" without possessing a certificate from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (or IICRC, as it is commonly known). Wise Law Firm has decades of experience litigating civil cases under the VCPA, and is always on the lookout for changes in the law. We applaud this sensible and bipartisan reform to protect consumers and keep businesses honest. We have seen many cases where a landlord, insurance company or manufacturer acting under warranty sends their "preferred" mold remediator, and when they do not have the proper certificates or training, it can put the health of your family at risk. That's why it is important to stay involved in the process, to inform and educate yourself, and to reach out to legal counsel such as Wise Law Firm to protect your interests.
